Cedar Products
The majority of Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) grows in coastal forests and in some of the interior forests of British Columbia. Western Red Cedar, in its natural, unfinished state, has a richly textured, tactile grain combined with a palette of warm, mellow tones from light amber to deep honey brown and an aromatic scent. The other benefits of Cedar include its dimensional stability that ensure the wood lies flat and stays straight.
Cedar contains natural oils that act as preservatives to help the wood resist insect attack and decay, making it an exceptional material for all outdoor applications. Cedar is also a firm base for many types of stains and paints, providing a versatile exterior siding alternative. The wood’s beautiful appearance combined with its stability and durability is often used for sidings, shakes & shingles, patio decking, fences, planters, screens, shelters and garden furniture, both in residential and commercial applications.
Indoors, cedar's dimensional stability makes it perfectly suited to a variety of uses in high moisture areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and saunas. Because its cellular structure provides higher insulation values than brick or concrete, Cedar interior paneling, ceilings or siding tend to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Cedar also has excellent sound suppression and absorption qualities.
